Lecithin is needed by every living cell in the human body.
Cell membranes, which regulate which nutrients may leave or enter the cell, are
largely composed of lecithin. Without lecithin, the cell membranes would
harden. Its structure protects the cells from damage by oxidation. The
protective sheaths surrounding the brain are composed of lecithin. Muscles and
nerve cells also contain lecithin which is largely composed of the B vitamin
choline, linoleic acid and inositol.
Lecithin is rich in vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty
acids. Although it is found in soybeans, wheat, nuts, seeds, brewer's yeast,
fish and eggs, the lecithin from these sources has little value because it is
often destroyed in the processing of these foods.
Lecithin is particularly rich in phosphatidylcholine which
is the precursor for the neurotransmitter (any chemical that results in the
transmission of nerve impulses between neurons in the brain and nerves)
acetylcholine. Phosphatidylcholine helps the body produce more acetylcholine
and lengthens its life which improves the functioning of neurotransmitters in
the brain and nervous system. With its ability to enhance acetylcholine
function, researchers are looking towards the use of lecithin to treat
neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases.
Cholesterol content in older cell membranes is much higher
than in younger cells. This high cholesterol content is responsible for the
hardening of cells. Although lecithin is a fatty substance, it acts as an
emulsifier. Lecithin is composed of high amounts of phospholipids which help to
monitor cholesterol levels and keep cell membranes more ductile. Lecithin has
been shown to reduce LDL, the "bad" cholesterol. At the same time, it raises
HDL cholesterol which is associated with a reduced health risk. This helps to
protect against the hardenening of arteries and heart disease.
Suggested Use: One to two daily preferably with meals.
Ingredients: Each capsule contains 1200 mg of Triple
Strength Lecithin, including a minimum of 420 mg phosphatidyl choline.
